London is Blue, but beating teams outside of derbies have been a problem for Chelsea lately.
The Blues beat Tottenham Hotspur on Dec. 22 and Arsenal on Dec. 29 but have lost to Everton (3-1, Dec. 7), Bournemouth (1-0, Dec. 14) and Southampton (2-0, Dec. 26) in December. Chelsea's grip on fourth place in the Premier League table hasn't slipped, but there are four teams within six points of Frank Lampard's side. A loss to Brighton at Falmer Stadium on Wednesday would be a less-than-ideal start to 2020.
Fourteenth-place Brighton aren't close to contending for a UEFA Champions League Place, but the Seagulls are one of a host of clubs within striking distance of midtable who can't afford a slip-up. Brighton are five points clear of a relegation spot and two points back of 10th place, so starting 2020 on the right foot is important.

As two of the most decorated managers in Europe, it's surprising Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti have not faced one another more.
Guardiola will be in Manchester City's dugout Wednesday at the Etihad Stadium and Ancelotti will be in Everton's as the managers square off for just the third time in their respective careers. City are pitched in a dogfight jockeying for positioning among the Premier League's UEFA Champions League spots, while Everton will play only their second match under Ancelotti.
Though the Sky Blues have as many losses as they did in their title-winning campaign a season ago, they easily dispatched second-place Leicester City and eighth-place Sheffield United on Dec. 21 and Dec. 29, respectively. The Toffees hope that Duncan Ferguson's interim bounce will extend under Ancelotti, and his new side can make a real statement with a result against City.

Tottenham Hotspur still can't keep goals out of the back of their net, but the results under new head coach José Mourinho are undeniable.
Since Mourinho took over in North London on Nov. 20 following Mauricio Pochettino's sacking, Spurs have accumulated 16 points in eight matches (5-1-2) and posted an identical record to Manchester City and Leicester City. Tottenham enter 2020 in sixth place in the Premier League, just five back of Chelsea in fourth for the final UEFA Champions League spot.
Spurs will have to travel to an in-form Southampton on Wednesday to open the New Year. The Saints are unbeaten in their last four matches, moving four points clear of the relegation places. Beating Tottenham would go a long way towards helping Southampton reach safety this season.
