中國對於資金漏洞有嚴格的限制，而加密貨幣雖然在中國並非合法，但是仍然有不少人利用加密貨幣「走資」。最近有報告指去年有價值超過 500 億美元的加密貨幣離開中國。
據區塊鏈調查機構 Chainalysis 最近一個報告指，去年從中國電子錢包轉移到其他國家的電子貨幣價值相當高，基於目前中國每人每年只可以最多兌換價值 5 萬美元的外幣，500 億美元外流顯然是超越了這個數額。其中有 180 億美元是 USDT，這種「穩定幣」與美元掛勾，因此用來作匯款或存款都相對低風險。不過 Chainalysis 也強調並非代表所有的款項都是資金外流。
Chainalysis 指，中國有不少「礦場」，他們在獲得加密貨幣之後會換作 USDT 然後在外國的交易所轉爲其他貨幣。他們也發現特別在去年 10 月政府決定推行「數碼人民幣」，以及後來 Bitcoin 價格回升的時候，從中國外流的加密貨幣金額有急升的情況。
