Sotheby’s is hosting its bi-annual auction in New York City this Wednesday, December 11th. Among the offerings is a small, rose-gold, rectangular Mellerio wristwatch from 1975. The watch was gifted to Fisher’s assistant, Corby McCoin, who has consigned it through Excalibur Jewelers, who used to service the watch for Fisher. Mellerio is a French jewelry maker that has been around since the 19th century. The watch's small, manual-wind movement was made by Pierce Watch Co., a Swiss manufacturer. While neither are big names, Fisher is. The daughter of Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, Carrie Fisher was known for her role as Princess Leia in the film series, Star Wars. The beloved Fisher passed away suddenly in 2016 and left fans bereft. Despite her celebrity, her watch has not generated a lot of buzz. After doing some digging, I couldn’t find a photo of her wearing the Mellerio, but I did come across pictures of her wearing two different Cartiers, and a 1920s diamond-ruby bracelet watch, as well as what looks like a Swatch (pictured above).
